About Abdou:
Abdou Simon Senghor earned his PhD in sociology from the University of Toulouse Jean Jaurès in Toulouse, France. He brought out the experiences of CKD patients and the perspectives of health care professionals to analyze the social construction of medical decisions, therapeutic choices, trust, and the role of a patient education program in the decision-making process regarding the choice of a dialysis treatment modality. He used autoethnography methods to conduct a reflective analysis based on his experience as a patient with chronic kidney disease as well. Additionally, he graduated with a master's in sociology from the Gaston Berger University (Saint-Louis, Senegal) and with a master’s in public health from the University of the Mediterranean Aix-Marseille II (Marseille, France).
Before joining the PATIENTS program, Abdou Simon Senghor was a postdoctoral researcher in the Pragmatic Health Ethics Research Unit based at the Montreal Clinical Research Unit. He worked on a methodological and conceptual development project on the basis of pragmatic ethics with the emphasis on ethical deliberations, dialogic ethics, and cultural diversity.
His academic career has allowed him to live in countries such as France, Canada, and now the United States, and has enriched him culturally. He intends to put this richness to good use in his new team as he is bilingual as well.
As a sociologist, he brings his skills in qualitative research and sociological analysis. He will also contribute his skills in conceptual and methodological development in health ethics, particularly on topics related to bioethical dilemmas, in the context of developing projects on community engaged research.
