Rodney Elliott is the engagement specialist for The PATIENTS Program in the Department of Pharmaceutical Health Services Research (PHSR) at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.

Rodney builds and sustains working relationships with community associations, faith-based organizations, school and university administrators, youth groups, and other institutions. He also plans and organizes community events such as health fairs and workshops to promote engagement in research. Concentrating in the West Baltimore corridor, Rodney leads a team that is passionate about listening to what the community wants and helping finding remedies to the communities’ concerns. He has collaborated with The PATIENTS Program before on a project called “Me & Pops.” The goal of this program is to strengthen the relationship between young men and the fathers/male role models in their life through self-esteem building, conflict resolution training, goals setting and other skills that will help them now and later in life.

He studied and played basketball at the University of Maryland, College Park from 1994-1998. Majoring in family science strengthens Rodney’s passion for working with children and families. Because of his success and achievements at College Park, he was able to play basketball professionally in Europe for over a decade. His experiences on and off the court in multiple countries give him a unique advantage. It helps him step into different environments with confidence and appreciation.

Rodney volunteers as a basketball assistant coach at Mt. Zion Prep here in Baltimore, where he helps young men mature academically and athletically. In his spare time, you can find Rodney in the gym or spending time with friends and family.
