Jasmine K. Cooper, PhD, MA, is the director of qualitative research for The PATIENTS Program at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.
About Jasmine:
In her capacity as director of qualitative research, Jasmine leads qualitative patient-centered outcomes research, particularly centered on her research specializations: racialized health disparities; media, power, and discourse; and structured gender, economic, and racial inequality.
Additionally, from 2019-2021, she completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship with The PATIENTS Program. Her postdoctoral training provided additional specializations in health disparities, and qualitative, community-engaged, patient-centered outcomes research. Specifically, her research with The PATIENTS Program investigated racial disparities in maternal and infant health (NFID/NMPHN); strategies for enhancing racial and ability-based diversity in aging research (NIA); and underrepresented group perspectives on COVID-19 testing (FDA). This fellowship also enhanced her knowledge of external funding acquisition processes, including grant-writing and proposal development.
She earned an MA and PhD in sociology at Michigan State University, with specializations in structured racial, gender, and economic inequalities in the US, as well as media framing and discourse theories. Ultimately, she possesses strong expertise in qualitative methodologies and racialized health disparities, amassed through thirteen years of training as a published scholar; an independent research consultant; an educator; a postdoctoral fellow with The PATIENTS Program; and a master's thesis/doctoral dissertation researcher.
