This position is responsible for ensuring design, development, documentation and implementation of research procedures and protocols using a variety of complex activities. The candidate is expected to contribute technical leadership in the area of proteomics and related mass spectrometry and analytical topics.

The successful candidate will develop and implement state-of-the-art mass spectrometry-based methods to identify, characterize and quantify proteins from complex protein mixtures such as cell lysates and human plasma / tissue samples.

In addition, the candidate will operate and maintain a high-resolution tandem mass spectrometers such as Thermo Scientific Q-Exactive, Thermo Fusion Lumos and Waters Synapt as well as the requisite nano-scale liquid chromatography systems.

Position responsibilities

Candidate will identify, advise or assist investigators with developing strategies for sample preparation, liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry to identify, quantify and characterize proteins and their modifications.

Candidate will be expected to expand or develop new skills, as needed, based on information from literature, in collaboration with other laboratories or vendors, or by interacting with colleagues at meetings or professional presentations.

Candidate will participate in training staff, students or fellows in advanced techniques by mass spectrometry used in the center through informal discussions or formal workshops offered by the Center.

The position includes the expectation that the candidate would participate in activities pertaining to MS Center operations.

The candidate will develop and follow SOPs, develop and maintain collaborative connections with the investigators.

The successful candidate will be involved in collaborative biomedical projects and independent research in technological developments in proteomics will be strongly encouraged.

Strong history of demonstrated research success working both independently and as part of a team, preferred.

Strong written and verbal communications are required.

Possible job ranks for the available positions include:

  • Postdoctoral Fellow: Applicants should have a Bachelor’s and Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or a related field of study with 0-5 yrs of experience past Ph.D. degree conferral.
  • Research Scientist: Ph.D with 3-5 yrs of experience.
  • Lead Research Scientist: Ph.D with 5-8 years of experience.
  • Senior Research Scientist: Ph.D with 6-10 years of experience.

*All ranks require experience in mass spectrometry. Stated experience ranges are guidelines where rank would be determined by each candidate’s education and experience.  Salary will be commensurate with experience.

**BS and MS levels scientists with experience would also be welcome based upon consideration of a unique combination of education and experience.

***Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled.***
