The Agilent 6560 Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) – quadrupole time-of-flight (QTOF) mass spectrometer has an ion mobility drift cell coupled with a high performance QTOF mass analyzer.
The Agilent 6560 is coupled with the Agilent 1290 UHPLC which provides the combined separation power and selectivity of LC, IMS, and MS techniques.
Ion mobility separates ions based on their collision cross sections, i.e., their shapes, allowing for molecules or molecular complexes with multiple conformations to be resolved from one another. Incorporating ion mobility gives greater confidence in compound identification with the additional dimension of separation as well as the structural information provided by ion mobility measurements. The drift tube ion mobility of the 6560 yields precise and accurate collision cross section (CCS or W) measurements without class dependent calibration standards
The instrument is used for biomarker discovery -omic workflows, combining UPLC separations, high-resolution/accurate mass detection, tandem mass spectrometry, and ion mobility.
