All supplemental materials must be received and processed by this date to be considered for acceptance. Unofficial transcripts are accepted for review purposes and official transcripts must be received by the University no later than Aug. 1, 2025. Please make sure any items being mailed are postmarked far enough in advance to meet this deadline. Completed applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received. Applying early is encouraged.

 

Applicant Qualifications

The MS in AIDD program favors applicants with a BA, BS, MS, or higher degree in the general areas of bioengineering, engineering, data sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, statistics, epidemiology, medicine, public health, and pharmacy; although, related degrees will be considered.

  2. Once applicants have started their application, applicants then must fill-out the application form and pay the $75 non-refundable application fee.
  3. After applicants have submitted the form and paid the fee, then they will be able to upload their application materials (transcripts, essay, resume/CV, etc.) to their application and request recommendations.

Transcript(s)

Unofficial transcripts (transcripts submitted by the applicant) are accepted for review purposes. An unofficial transcript from each college or university that you are currently attending, or you previously attended must be provided. Official transcripts (transcripts sent directly from the institution) are only required once an applicant is admitted into the program and plans to enroll. Both mail and electronic official transcripts are accepted. Official transcripts must be received by the University no later than August 1, 2025.

  • Mailed Transcripts: Please make sure that all official mailed transcripts are in an envelope sealed by the sending institution and postmarked far enough in advance to meet this deadline. If provided by mail (USPS), send official transcripts in sealed envelopes to:

Recommendations

Please provide three (3) recommendations from faculty or others who can attest to the quality of your academic performance, scholastic potential and other non-cognitive factors. Your recommendations are managed by the online application; you will need the email addresses of your recommenders for this process.

Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Your resume or CV may be uploaded as part of your online application (please make sure you ‘submit’ the online application form first).

Essay

As part of your application, you are required to submit a supplemental essay. The essay should be within 500 words and address your academic and/or professional career goals and objectives in pursuing graduate study. Specifically, we ask that you address the following three areas: 

Experience in Drug Development and Data Analytics: Provide an overview of your current work and any familiarity or experience you have in drug development or data analytics. If applicable, mention specific roles, projects, or initiatives where you’ve engaged with these topics. Note: While experience is not mandatory for admission, it helps us better understand your background and interest in the field.

Relevance of Previous Academic and Professional Work: Highlight any courses, training, or certifications you have undertaken that are relevant to drug development, data analytics, or related fields. Discuss how this experience has prepared you for study in the MS in AI for Drug Development program.

Goals and Excitement about AI in Health Care: Share your professional aspirations and describe how the MS in AI for Drug Development program will help you achieve them. Identify one specific area where you are particularly excited about applying AI in health care, and explain why it inspires you.

This essay will allow us to understand your passion, your preparedness, and how the MS in AIDD program aligns with your career goals. 

English Language Proficiency

International applicants must take the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo exam. Applicants must achieve a minimum, total score of 80 on the internet-based test on the TOEFL; or, a minimum, total score of 7 on the IELTS; or, a minimum score of 115 on Duolingo.

  • Please have official TOEFL test scores sent through ETS to our school code 5848. IELTS test-takers may send their TRF number to the School of Pharmacy at sopgradadmissions@rx.umaryland.edu so that the admissions office may verify the applicant’s scores electronically.
  • If you took the Duolingo exam, please send us an unofficial copy of your scoresheet and request the official be sent to University of Maryland, Baltimore.
  • If you are interested or curious in our exemption guidelines, please read the exemptions from English language proficiency requirement.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test is not required for submission.
